types of funerals

There are several formats a funeral may follow and we Endeavour to make each one unique to celebrate the deceased person's life in accordance with the wishes of the family.

The following are guidelines only as there are many different ways of conducting a funeral.

All services are carried out according to the wishes and instructions of each family.
  • The Burkin Svendsens' Chapel at our Funeral Home premises is available to all families. However, we can conduct services at any location for you.
  • A service held in a Church or Chapel followed by a full cortege to the place of burial, or cremation, where committal takes place.
  • A service in a Church or Chapel with committal but no cortege and we co-ordinate the removal of the coffin from the Church, sometimes during the singing of the last Hymn.
  • A service and committal at the graveside.
  • A service and committal at the crematorium.
  • Memorial service with no coffin present at the Church or Chapel. A memorial service usually follows a private graveside or crematorium committal.
  • Due to family circumstances we are sometimes requested to carry out a cremation or burial with no service or public attendance.
